Grade I
Buildings of the highest calibre or importance. They cannot be touched unless for repair. There are around 6000 of them in England and Wales.

 

Grade II
Buildings protected from significant alteration. There are about 18,000 of them.

Grade II*
Buildings of special interest, warranting every effort to preserve them. There are roughly half a million of them.

Buildings are listed by the Historic England.

The Statutory List
The local statutory list may be retrieved from the Portsmouth City Council website along with information on conservation areas and Tree Preservation Orders.
